Shopping Windows Art

When you go out shopping in London, you can't help but notice the effort people put into making the windows look good. What they do is creating art. Especially in the big shops like Harrods, Selfridges, Debenhams, Harvey Nicks, you get to enjoy looking at clothes and shoes just by walking outside.

Harvey Nickols

Harvey Nicks is in the same area as Harrods, in Knightsbridge, and whilst there are plenty of reasons to visit Harrods for the history, the interior and the Food Halls (oh la la, the food in there!), if you want to enjoy shopping all the big brands, go to Harvey Nicks to avoid the queues and the hundred tourists, taking photos of everything and slowing you down. I mean, I was one of them plenty of times, but it's getting annoying after a while. HN is quiet, luxurious and you can browse for hours through Chloe clothes, Louboutin shoes, Chanel bags and on the ground floor there's every cosmetic you could wish for. Top floor holds beautiful Champagne bars, delicious sandwiches and small cafes with desserts and coffes. Not to mention the selection of food they have there from all over the world. Last time I went there I eyed some butterflies made of sugar and a collection of cupcakes with edible glitter! All that and many more, but time for some window shopping....

Anything special windows you saw and you still remember? For me I'll always remember a christmas tree at Benetton windows in Tsimiski St were they used tiny colourful tshits instead of xmas decorative balls. It just looked so cute!

Clueless : This is where Lady Gaga got her inspiration from etc

Since I'm still unemployed, and after spending a couple of days going through self pity and craving anything sweet to make me feel better (yesterday was ice cream, the day before was bougatsa and go figure, find bougatsa in London, today is doughnuts), I decided to go back to watching movies all day long. Because what's better than escaping to screen stories, with drama (sometimes even worst than yours), romance and happy endings. I downloaded a variety of movies, starting with the 50's (An affair to remember), 60's (Breakfast at Tiffany's of course), 80's (Sixteen Candles, cute), 90's (Clueless), 00's (The Devil wears Prada) and some recent stuff (like the Prince of Persia, please let it be good).

Clueless, I LOVE.And what's not to love, this movie got everything. Fashion, teen drama, makeovers, shopping, high school, clever lines and cute boys. I remember watching it Saturday evening in Mega Channel, but I observed under a different perspective this time of course, compared to watching it at the age of 10 or so.

Point 1 : So, I was watching and suddenly, BANG, going through the makeover, did I see this right? Are these Coke rollers? Ring a bell? Oh yes right, Lady Gaga made it a trend this year. Well Gaga's styling team, got you. Clueless inspiration.

Point 2 : Blair from Gossip Girl is almost a copy of Cher. Almost because I'd say Blair is smarter. But the expressions and the way they talk is very similar and quite cute. Want more proof? Headbands ladies and gentlemen. Velvet-y and colourful and the ones that match every outfit. That Cher and her BFF were wearing. Haha I've got plenty of these from when I was 10. But the only way I'm wearing them is in the bathroom; when I'm washing my face. Even if Blair made them look cute. We've evolved in that section quite well though and I have proof to show you (soon)

Point 3 : Paul Rudd is in the movie. And he looks exactly the same as he does now! And with a quick IMDBing I find out that's he was 26 at the time (at 1995). Gosh, and that was 15 years ago...! So that makes him...41! :/ (I hope I counted correctly, I'd be embarrased if all that turns out to be pointless) And he looks 30 now so that was a bit of shock. And more thinking of all of us growing old, and time going pass fast.. Absolutely depressing! Just for the shake of mentioning he's Phoebe's Mike from Friends. Who I never noticed till some recent movies and especially my

favourite "I love you man". Aww he looks cute.

Point 4 : This movie has some good lines

(Cher coming late in)

Mel: Do you know what time it is?

Cher: A watch doesn't really go with this outfit, daddy.

Christian: Do you like Billie Holiday?

Cher: I love him.

Cher: Isn't my house classic? The columns date all the way back to 1972.

Cher (for Christian): He does dress better than I do, what would I bring to the relationship?

Mel: What the hell is that?

Cher: A dress.

Mel: Says who?

Cher: Calvin Klein. (SHE IS SOOO CUTE)

Point 5 : Program at the PC (with touch screen, wow for the technology :D), that includes all Cher's clothes and helps her get dressed in the morning! Also seen in Privileged (great series that lasted only for one season, is there anyone else who loved it?). I can't be bothered to find the episodes and take snapshots of that, but WHEN ARE WE ALL GONNA HAVE ONE OF THESE?

So that's all my ramblings for today, I just felt like writing I suppose. I HAD to comment the movie to someone since I watched it alone, right? Thank you if you read. If you only looked at the photos, that's fine too. ^_^

First week in London

It's been officially the end of the first week in London, which was filled with all kinds of small and unimportant stuff, the ones that may be part of the everyday life but make you SMILE! :) Endless Ben and Jerry's supplies, berries of all kinds that stain your teeth, sunny weather, online supermarket shopping, walking in Hyde Park with squirrels running past , relaxing on the grass with my boy, discovering Urban Outfitters.

The week had of course the up and downs, nothing tragic but some things change from one day to another, especially when you're first coming into a new place and try to adjust! Like,
Day 1 : Hate list : The house. Day 2 : Love list : The house. I admit it's only me who would complain over that house, but I was pretty tired and had no idea where to put my 27 kilos of stuff I brought along. It only took one day to love the yellow bedroom walls, the Victorian style front, the old lamp in the corner, my twelve draws (big enough for all my stuff). It also helped the few girlie touches I put, like my shoe box tower that will soon look like the Tower of Babel, the "Love" hanger for my necklaces, and it wouldn't be my room without a full-length mirror. The fact that I'm 1 minute away from Hyde Park, 10 from Oxford St, and 30 from Harrods might help just a tiny little bit. Gosh, I LOVE my life. (Please let nothing go wrong.)

Of course a few more things made it at the hate list, like museums, walking big distances and sweating, waiting all day for the post, camera that is falling apart, but compared to the love list.. Pff who cares?

My first possession from Urban Outfitters. I swear I want to buy every single thing in there.

Regent's Park is extremely pretty but do not visit the Zoo, it's expensive and just not that great. Unless you have kids. Or you like gorillas.

MAC Venomous Villains Collection

I need a job, like..... NOW! September is so close and I need to start saving money for the upcoming collection. MAC haven't seen me for almost a year, but they got me with this one... I have to admit I'm totally Disney Princesses rather than the Villains but with the funky packaging, Cruella De Ville, and red lipstick that reminds me of luscious Snow White lips I can already see me buying at least 5 pieces! EXCITED!!

PS. Thank you all for your amazing comments on my last post, I'm adjusting well in London life, I'll soon answer personally to all of you and start checking your blogs again, I'll start looking for jobs in 2 days and I'm ready to start blogging! I'm afraid this might turn into a diary due to my excitement, but I have so many more things to discover and want to share them all!

Goodbye seems to be the hardest word

Υπάρχουν στιγμές που πάντα ονειρευόσουν, και πάντα φάνταζαν τόσο μακριά. Μετράω αντίστροφα, πρώτα μήνες, μετά βδομάδες, μετά μέρες... και οι αριθμοί μικραίνουν. Το όνειρο μπορώ σχεδόν να το αγγίξω τώρα...

Δεν αλλάζω σπίτι...
Δεν αλλάζω πόλη...
Αλλάζω χώρα.

Είναι περίεργο γιατί ακροβατώ ανάμεσα σε ευτυχισμένες σκέψεις που φεύγω επιτέλους, και σε μια μελαγχολία που αφήνω τόσα πίσω. Σαν αισιόδοξος άνθρωπος σκέφτομαι πάντα τα θετικά, ποτέ δεν μου πέρασε από το μυαλό ότι θα μου λείψουν πράγματα. Και αυτό το ποστ, το είχα πάντα στο μυαλό μου σαν άλλο ένα από τα χαρούμενα και κωμικά μου.

Και ξαφνικά η Ελλάδα δεν είναι τόσο άσχημη και οι άνθρωποι δεν είναι τόσο γκρινιάρηδες όσο τους θυμόμουν. Ο ήλιος είναι ακόμα πιο λαμπερός, αν θέλεις πράσινο μπορείς να το βρεις, η θάλασσα θα είναι τώρα πιο μακριά από ποτέ. Και τελικά έχω τόσους ανθρώπους που αγαπώ...

Αυτή τη στιγμή, προσπαθώ να βάλω μια τάξη στα πράγματα που αφήσω πίσω και σ' αυτά που δεν μπορώ να ζήσω χωρίς. Η βαλίτσα μικρή, οι αναμνήσεις πολλές. Δεν μπορώ να πάρω μαζί μου τα φωτογραφικά μου άλμουμ, όλα τα βιβλία που θυμίζουν τα μαθητικά χρόνια, τα εισιτήρια από τα ταξίδια μου... Πρέπει να αρχίσω απ'την αρχή, να προσαρμοστώ, να αλλάξω.

Μια στάση στην Κύπρο, και μετά Λονδίνο.

Στο Λονδίνο που αγαπάω και που πριν 7 χρόνια ήξερα κάπου μέσα μου ότι κάποτε θα ζήσω. Γιατί αν θες κάτι πολύ, όλο το σύμπαν συνωμοτεί για να το καταφέρεις. Τι συνηθισμένο, μα και πόσο αληθινό!

Για νέο σπίτι, νέες γνωριμίες, νέο περιβάλλον, νέα ζωή. Και φυσικά, πολύ shopping και τόσο πράγματα που με περιμένουν να τα αγοράσω. Για να μην ξεχνιόμαστε. :)

Το μόνο που δε νιώθω είναι φόβος. Γιατί όταν έχεις κάποιον στο τέρμα να σε αγαπάει και να σε στηρίζει, δεν χρειάζεσαι τίποτα άλλο.
